Beach Ferns, Liv MacDonald and Shaunna Polley have continued their standout run at the AVC Beach Tour in Samila, Thailand, booking a place in today’s semi-finals after another composed and clinical performance.
In last night’s quarter final, the New Zealand pair were in control from the outset, producing a convincing straight-sets win over Japan’s Ren/Non, 21–15, 21–11. The performance was marked by strong service and offensive pressure from our Beach Ferns.
It was also a noticeable step up from their previous meeting with the same opposition, where they secured a tighter 21–19, 21–18 victory last week. The improved margin reflected a more settled and clinical performance under pressure.
Conditions remain a major factor throughout the tournament, with extreme heat above 36°C and feeling closer to 40+°C on court. The humidity and surface conditions have tested every athlete in Samila.
Despite that, Liv and Shaunna have remained composed and unbeaten, managing the conditions well and building strong momentum at the right point of the tournament.
They now turn their attention to the semi-final today at 2:30 pm NZT, where they will face Thailand’s Patcharaporn/Salinda for a place in the gold medal match.
