Volleyball New Zealand appoints Danika Charlton as General Manager Community

Volleyball New Zealand is pleased to announce the appointment of Danika Charlton as General Manager Community, effective Monday, 12 January 2026.

Danika will lead Volleyball New Zealand’s Community Team, overseeing the continued growth and delivery of community participation programmes, national events, and regional relationships across Aotearoa.

A highly experienced sport sector operations and project leader, Danika brings more than 15 years of experience across high-performance sport, major events, and community participation. Her career includes leading global initiatives such as the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2021 Legacy and Leverage Programme, managing large international teams, and delivering large-scale community engagement and infrastructure projects.

Danika is recognised for her energetic, structured, and inclusive leadership style, which combines strong operational discipline with creativity and fosters trusted stakeholder relationships.

Volleyball New Zealand Acting Managing Director Debbie Hyland says the appointment reflects the organisation’s commitment to strengthening the community game.

“Danika brings a wealth of experience and a values-driven approach that aligns strongly with our vision for volleyball in Aotearoa. Her leadership will be instrumental in supporting our regions, schools, and clubs as the sport continues to grow.”

As part of her appointment, Danika will be supported through a structured onboarding process and a seamless transition from Acting General Manager Community Richard Casutt, ensuring continuity across national events, community programmes, and key relationships.

Danika shared her excitement about joining the organisation.

“I am really excited about the opportunity to work within this fast-growing sport alongside the volleyball community. I am looking forward to focusing on growing school club links, supporting regional delivery, and working closely with schools, clubs, and partners to grow a more connected community game.”
