New Zealander Hugh McCutcheon was named as FIVB General Director at the FIVB Congress in Portugal on Sunday (NZ Time).
Following the election of former General Director Fabio Azevedo into the role of President, Azevedo immediately confirmed McCutcheon's appointment to the Congress delegates.
McCutcheon, who has coached the United States to medals in both men's and women's competitions said of his appointment:
“I am truly honoured and excited to be taking on this new role within the FIVB. From player to coach, to sports administrator in both the global FIVB and US collegiate arenas, and now taking on this position, I feel privileged to continue contributing to the sport I love in meaningful new ways.
This moment feels both surreal and deeply rewarding, and I’m grateful to be part of a journey that will help shape the sport’s next chapter.”
Volleyball New Zealand Chief Executive Steven Upfold congratulated McCutcheon in person at the Congress on Sunday.
"Hugh has amassed an outstanding resume in volleyball in a range of roles and on behalf of everyone in the New Zealand community I congratulate him on his appointment."
