Volleyball Ferns in Five VS Mongolia

Volley Ferns Secure First Win at AVC Nations Cup!

Our Volley Ferns claimed their first win of the AVC Nations Cup in a thrilling five-set battle against Mongolia, with the game wrapping up in the early hours of the morning (1am NZT).

The team came out strong, taking the first two sets. However, Mongolia found momentum in the third and fourth, forcing a decisive fifth set. With Mongolia leading 13–11, the Volley Ferns showed their grit and composure under pressure.

Captain Petra Manderson sparked the comeback with a clutch kill on the pin, followed by a clean help set from Liz Hanna to opposite Charlie Vail, who snuck the ball around the Mongolian block. Then came a massive block from Katie Adamson, and finally, Hanna sealed the match with an ace!

Head Coach Adam Watson said the win was a powerful reminder of what this team is capable of and a testament to the work they’ve put in over the past two years.

Assistant Coach Petra Manderson acknowledged the battle through the third and fourth sets but praised the team’s determination to dig deep in the fifth. Captain Manderson told the team to have fun, stay courageous, and take the big swings—and that’s exactly what they did.

The Volley Ferns now enjoy a well-earned rest day before their next match on June 11th.
