Ruakaka Local Information
Getting there
Ruakaka is a small beachside town, resting on the shores of Bream Bay in the Northland region. Located about 30 kilometres south of Whangarei, Ruakaka is a popular holiday destination and surfing beach and its soft white sand makes it an ideal location for a Beach Volleyball holiday! Once you get out of Auckland its about a 90 minute drive to Bream Bay. Whangarei Airport is the closest airport.

The Beach
If you find Ruakaka Beach on Google Maps you will find us! The venue will be right in front of the Ruakaka Surf Club. The Beach is long and narrow so we will have just 1 court wide and 12-15 courts long so be prepared to walk down the beach--bring your camping chairs as Centre Court has branding around it which you can't see over if sitting on the ground. So far we have been unable to find any bleachers or portable seating in the region.

Ruakaka Beach Holiday Park is just 50 metres from the beach and has cabins and tent sites.
Ruakaka Beach Front Motel is right beside the carpark but is booking up fast.
There are a number of holiday houses on Air Bnb and Book a Bach etc.
Waipu township, Marsden Cove and One Tree Point are all 10 mins drive away, Whangarei is a 30 min drive.

Food & Water
Food and coffee trucks will be onsite.
We have access to drinking water outside the Surf Club to refill water bottles. Our Beach Tour Shop will sell HydroFlasks, along with Aloe Up Sunscreen, Sandsocks and other products. We promote reuse and refill water bottles rather than single use and ask you to help us in this quest whenever possible.
The Bach Cafe is right beside the main carpark.
Ruakaka Shopping Centre is 5 minutes drive from the Beach and includes a Supermarket, Pharmacy, ATM, etc.

Toilets & Showers
There are 2 public toilets in the carpark and we will have portaloos at the North end of the domain. There is 1 outdoor cold shower in front of the Surf Club that we can use. There is no changing/shower block onsite.

Other Activities

  • Fun zone with spike ball, soccer golf, cornhole etc.
  • Safe swimming beach, bring your paddle board or water toys. (Swim between the flags when lifeguards are on duty)
  • Waipu Cave - free access to this cave with heaps of glow worms just 15 mins drive away. (be prepared to get wet feet but its worth it!)

We care deeply about the environment and particularly the beach and ocean. We strongly encourage the messages of reuse, refill, recycle and reduce. We aim to be a zero waste event and there are no public rubbish bins, so we ask that you take all your rubbish home with you at the end of each day. We will have recycling bins onsite. We partner with Aloe Up sunscreen which is reef and ocean friendly with no nasties in it and encourage you to consider what you put in the ocean. We will provide as much shade as possible along the venue and you are welcome to bring your own shade too. Please stay off the sand dunes when positioning any gazebos or tents.
Social 4's
