The age groups at the NZ Provincial Beach Volleyball Champs are alligned with the International age groups. We appreciate that as this event is so early in the year that these groups can be difficult to grasp.

Under 15 (an athlete cannot turn 15 in 2020) - Born in 2006 or later

Under 17 (an athlete cannot turn 17 in 2020) - Born in 2004 or later

Under 19 (an athlete cannot turn 19 in 2020) - Born in 2002 or later

As 2020 is a year that will feature a World University Beach Volleyball Championship and not an U21 Beach Volleyball World Championships we have decide to add this grade as a way of encouraging Tertiary representation in Beach Volleyball.

Athletes must represent their University and must enter with an athlete currently studying at the same University (exemption: NZ Athletes studying abroad will be able to pair up and play as “invitational teams”). You must be studying full time.  Those entering 1st year in 2020 are not eligible. You can have completed your studies at the end of 2019. 

The event will run alongside NZ Provincial Beach Volleyball Champs. Athletes cannot enter more than one grade.

Following on from the inaugural FIVB 4x4 Champs at the World Beach games, VNZ are offering an opportunity for those athletes born in 1998-2001.

While we are interested in seeing this event growing into a competitive event, at this stage we are offering it along side the NZ Tertiary Champs as a way of more athletes getting an opportunity to play beach volleyball in a fun environment along side their peers.

Teams can be made of up to 6 players, with 4 players on the court at one time.
