Volley Ferns well prepared for Asian Championships
New Zealand’s Volley Ferns open their 20th Asian Senior Women’s Championships in South Korea with a first up game against Chinese Taipei on August 19th. Thailand are also in New Zealand’s pool.
"The team coached by Richard Casutt have had been preparing since June, although not always with all the team members available. Training has included games against the Australian Centre of Excellence, local training camps and a week long training camp in Thailand. “Thailand has provided a great environment for us to tweak our final preparations” says Casutt. “With the heat and the exposure to the Asian style of volleyball, we are giving ourselves every chance of combating their smart play.”
With a combination of experience and youth, Casutt is confident that the team will go close with a number of teams. Captain Kim Smith is tasked with leading the team and working hard on court to bring the best out of each athlete. “We have trained well”, says Smith, “now it is time to reflect the effort of this training and produce results. We know we have some talent in this team and it’s completely up to us to deliver.
