Continental Cup Finals Day
The final day of play at the AVC Continental Cup Oceania Zone Tournament was played in stunning conditions at Mt Maunganui, although in the matches played later in the day, the players had to cope with an increasing breeze. In the Men's, Samoa took third place after a golden set win over Fiji, whilst in the Bronze medal playoff in the Women's, the New Zealand combinations proved too strong for the Samoan women. The women's gold medal match saw the up and coming Vanuatu combinations against the vastly more experienced Austrlaian pairs. In a stunning upset, the Vanuatu number 1 combination had a win over their much higher ranked Australian counterparts, but the Australians still took out the tie 3-1. The much anticipated Trans-Tasman clash in the Men saw the Australian number 2 combination of Boehm/Kapa come out firing against the number 1 New Zealand combination Ben O'Dea/Pitman and some stunning blocks by Kapa had the kiwi's on the back foot and set the scene for the Australian's to take the tie 4-0.
