Continental Cup Finals Day

The final day of play at the AVC Continental Cup Oceania Zone Tournament was played in stunning conditions at Mt Maunganui, although in the matches played later in the day, the players had to cope with an increasing breeze.

In the Men's, Samoa took third place after a golden set win over Fiji, whilst in the Bronze medal playoff in the Women's, the New Zealand combinations proved too strong for the Samoan women.

The women's gold medal match saw the up and coming Vanuatu combinations against the vastly more experienced Austrlaian pairs.  In a stunning upset, the Vanuatu number 1 combination had a win over their much higher ranked Australian counterparts, but the Australians still took out the tie 3-1.

The much anticipated Trans-Tasman clash in the Men saw the Australian number 2 combination of Boehm/Kapa come out firing against the number 1 New Zealand combination Ben O'Dea/Pitman and some stunning blocks by Kapa had the kiwi's on the back foot and set the scene for the Australian's to take the tie 4-0.

National Beach Champs Underway

in

The 2012 National Beach Champs start today (Friday 13th January) at 10am at the Mairangi Beach Centre. Thursday evening saw all of the Women's teams attending the technical meeting and getting a run down on the next couple of days.

We were also very pleased to confirm that Maori TV will come down over the course of the weekend to follow the fortunes of the Maori athletes competing at the championships. Two of the National Beach Series stars are Paora Morunga (No.1 Men's seed) and Micah Lindsay-Brown (No. 1 Women's seed) and both will feature strongly in the reports prepared by Maori TV. We look forward to having TV at the event, its great for the athletes and the sport in general.
We will update as the event proceeds. Seeds and pools for the Women's competition are here and this link will provide results over the next two days.

Good luck to everyone and thanks to North Harbour Volleyball for their great work in preparing for the event.
