John Hall
Any attempt to describe John’s contribution to volleyball in New Zealand runs the risk of gross understatement. John has been involved in everything volleyball almost since its inception in New Zealand. Our first records tell us that John was a key player in representative teams over a period of 12 years from 1970, and during the same period fulfilled administrative roles with the Federation of Clubs as a committee member Treasurer, and Committee chair. From 1984-1989 John was Coach of the national Men’s team taking them to compete in Australia, Kuwait, New Caledonia, Asia and even Greece. In standing for the Committee in 1989 John it is recorded that John stated that he “strongly believes that development must continue at all levels, both playing and administrative as each level supports the other”. This has been the essence of his commitment to volleyball over more than four decades. John fulfilled his commitment as a player, a coach, committee member, Vice President, Referees convenor, kiwisport liaison, league convenor and Zone Convenor. In 1991 Graeme Steel is quoted, ”we are deeply indebted to John hall for his continuous involvement with the men’s team, as a player and coach are unparalleled, his contribution to volleyball inestimable (and we hope not yet complete)”. Gladly this involvement has continued through to this day.

John is selfless in his commitment, driven by one motive – to share his knowledge and time to all who wish to be involved in the game he so loves. Volleyball has been his life.
