The Oceania Zonal Volleyball Association said the first-ever FIVB sanctioned international Volleyball tournament to be played in the New Zealand is a fantastic opportunity to both profile the sport, the magnificent new recreation facility at Porirua and the many facilities, services and sites available within the Porirua City region. Oceania Zonal Volleyball Association said it also looks forward to working with the Porirua City Council to make the tournaments outstanding successes.
The men’s Asian Pool A and women’s Asian Pool A are both scheduled to take place in Porirua City, Wellington, through April 20-24. Men’s teams from New Zealand, Samoa, Fiji, and Tonga, and five women’s teams from New Zealand, Samoa, Fiji, Solomon Islands and Tonga will compete in the tournaments.
The teams will play round robin, with four matches each day at 1:30 p.m., 3:30, 5:30 and 7:30. It will be the first time the New Zealand Men’s and Women’s teams compete in the preliminary rounds for an FIVB World championships.
The winner of the men’s Pool A will go on to compete in Asian Pool F of the second round in Taipei through May 22-24 against Kazakhstan, Chinese Taipei and the winner of Asian Pool C, while the first-place finisher in the women’s section will play against Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Maldives in Asian Pool B of the second round in Ust-Kamenogorsk, Kazakhstan, through June 12-14.
The women’s runner-up will go to Nakhonpathon, Thailand, in June to compete against Thailand, Chinese Taipei and Bangladesh in Asian Pool C of the second round.
