VNZ HIGH PERFORMANCE SELECTION CRITERIA
VNZ High Performance Squads
National Squad
This is the senior national level of the Volleyball New Zealand Beach High Performance Program consisting of the Senior Beach National Teams. There are three levels within the National Squad. Teams will be allocated key events for their continued development based on the High Performance Strategy and calendar of events.
SELECTIONS
National Squad Selection
Selections will be made at the end of January after the National tour and a training camp in late January. Selection will be based on:
· VNZ Beach High Performance Panel in consultation with SPARC and the VNZ Board will set the philosophy underpinning the selection criteria
· All VNZ squads will be reviewed annually and up-dated when appropriate
· The support package and requirements for each athlete will be negotiated with each athlete prior to their acceptance into the squad. This to ensure so that there are clear expectations for all involved.
Levels within the National Beach Squad
Elite – any player who has qualified in the preceding year for the main draw of a FIVB World Tour Event.
Talented Athlete Programme – players who have been selected for the Talented Athlete Programme (TAP) through the selection criteria and within the bounds of the SPARC selection criteria.
Nationally Ranked– up to 12 players per gender from the final VNZ Beach Volleyball rankings and any player the selection panel considers appropriate such as NZ players based overseas may be selected for this group.
The National Squad operates to provide support for athletes to compete Internationally.
When VNZ receives invitations to compete in International Events members of the National Beach Squad will be offered the opportunity to apply for selection.
Selection will be based on:
1. Beach Volleyball High Performance Squad categories in relation to the High Performance Philosophy and Strategic Goals.
2. Beach Volleyball Player rankings (NOTE: VNZ Beach Volleyball rankings will be based on (3 ) three National Tour results and best 2 Grand Slam Challenger or Satellite results.
3. The nature of the beach volleyball competition VNZ has been invited to send players to.
4. The need for VNZ to develop players for the future.
5. Applicant previous performance at International Events.
NOTES:
1. NZ players can ONLY earn selection points when playing with a NZ player.
2. The selection panel may call for a trial when they believe that rankings do not validly differentiate teams by ability.
