2009 NZ MEN’S VOLLEYBALL TEAM
Volleyball New Zealand announces the following New Zealand Men’s team to play in the following events;
- South Pacific Challenge Tournament in Auckland 13-18 April 2009
- 2010 World Championship Round 1 Qualification Tournament in Porirua 22—24 April 2009

NZL Men 2009
The New Zealand Men’s Programme is very exciting for 2009. Volleyball New Zealand is seeking confirmation from 30 players announced today wishing to be part of the 2009 New Zealand Senior Men’s Squad.
Players must be available for the following Training Camps and International events. If you cannot make particular events and still wish to be part of the NZ Men’s programme please complete application form and indicate by email which events you cannot attend.

23 Feb | Announcement of National Team training squad 30 players | Forward application to confirm availability for National selection camp. Athletes are responsible for getting to Auckland. Billeting may be an option for accommodation. |
14/15 March | National Selection Camp Saturday 3 - 8 pm, Auckland Sunday 9 am – 2 pm | Internal travel – Subsidised travel pool to apply for player travel to Auckland & return home (includes airfares from Chch. Wgtn & Dunedin) & petrol costs for other areas. |
16 March | Selection of NZ Team | Announcement of NZ team for South Pacific Challenge & World Championships Qualifier (WCQ) in Porirua |
11/12 April | Training Camp – NZ team | Auckland |
13-18 April | South Pacific Challenge tournament | Auckland - There are 12 overseas teams competing |
20-24 April | World Championship Qualifying (WCQ) Rd 1 | Oceania Leg of World Championship, Porirua, Wellington. One pool Tonga, Samoa, Fiji, and New Zealand. |
22-24 May | World Championship Qualifying Rd 2 | Taipei - (Winners of Rd 1 Event) – International travel and accommodation covered by FIVB. |
Costs:
- National Selection Camp – Cost $70
- Training camp & South Pacific Challenge – 8 days - $100 (if you take a billet & provide food/transport), or $100 + travel pool costs (if you don’t have a billet) – Travel pool cost estimate $150-$200
- Option of staying together for South Pacific Challenge depends on funding application for travel & accommodation
- WCQ Rd 1 in Porirua, 7 days – Max Cost $1000 (depends on funding)
- WCQ Rd 2 in Taipei – Airfares & accommodation & food covered by FIVB
- Funding applications will be made to reduce the above costs – players who commit must assume they will cover all the above costs

For the first time the New Zealand Men’s and Women’s Teams will be playing in the qualification rounds for the 2010 World championship. The first leg of the Championship is the Oceania Leg where New Zealand will play a round robin against Samoa, Fiji, and Tonga. The winner of Oceania Round 1 will have their travel and accommodation covered to compete in the second leg in Taipei.
